Career Counselling Foundations and Techniques is designed to equip students entering the helping professions with a comprehensive understanding of career counselling theory, practical skills, and applications in both individual and group settings. The course covers diverse counselling theories and essential techniques, including building a therapeutic alliance, active listening, reflecting, question formulation, and addressing common challenges such as resistance and personal bias.
Students will develop skills to establish, lead, and assess various counselling scenarios, with a focus on group counselling interventions. Ethical, legal, and professional considerations within the counselling field will be explored, alongside participation in a simulated counselling group for hands-on experience. Delivered through a blend of instructional sessions and experiential activities, including videotaped practice, the course provides a robust foundation in career counselling techniques for professional practice.
