Principles of Teaching and Learning 2: Science is designed as a 45-hour course which explores the history, philosophy, nature and methods of teaching and assessing science in the classroom. This course will provide the necessary experiences that will enable educators to select science content and methods appropriate for their students; use hands-on activities to promote skill development and design classroom environments that promote positive attitudes towards science.
Students will develop an understanding and appreciation of the knowledge gained about the natural world with respect to the nature of science. This knowledge is significant, as combined with content gained from specialist disciplines, will adequately prepare teachers to effectively teach science in the classroom. This individual empowerment can be the basis upon which critical national goals for progress both economically and within the area of science and innovation can be assured.
